Error: “The Service Cannot Be Started, Either Because It Is Disabled Or Because It Has No Enabled Devices Associated With It” When Trying To run/initialize Kerberos Adapter using setupkerberos.bat

While configuring the Kerberos Adapter in Windows Connector we may get an error stating “Failed to set adapter configuration. Kerberos cannot be initialized.” In this case, we must follow the instructions in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2149753 to run a script to initialize Kerberos.

Symptom

Kerberos initialization failed due to an Error “This command cannot be run due to the error: The Service Cannot Be Started, Either Because It Is Disabled or Because It Has No Enabled Devices Associated with It” is displayed when trying to run the script “setupkerberos.bat”.

After analyzing the logs and events we noticed the connector is security hardened and one of the Service required “Secondary Logon service” to run the setupkerberos.bat is disabled or not running. If the service is disabled, make sure you set the service startup type to Automatic/Manual and Start the service

Once you start the service, re-run the command and Kerberos initialization should be completed successfully. Below is the reference screenshot

Hope this article helped you to resolve the Kerberos Initialization issue.
